Brewed to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Benjamin Franklins birth on January 17, 1706, this brown ale arrives with just a ring of foam atop a chestnut body with red hues and outstanding clarity.
The lack of hops during the early days of the colonies is readily apparent in this re-creation. Entry is quiet with appropriate carbonation and medium bodied mouthfeel. Midtaste is malty with additional sweetness possibly arising from corn. The finish is less bitter than expected with a slight molasses fade.
One can't help but think that with todays ingredients & equipment, this brew is head over heels better than anything the Colonists were able to brew...and for that I am grateful. While this offering is nice and remarkably true to style...one is enough for me.
