It's a malty, German red with what they say is Willamette hops at the finish. Very good red ale, with a dark red color.

Appearance: Arrives with a modest head capping the Birch beer colored liquid; spots of lacing hang around
Smell: Perhaps it was the power of suggestion from the color, but it smelled a bit like a Birch beer, too, with elements of caramel and dark cherry
Taste: Very malty, with the caramel and dark cherry elements prevailing, almost like a Doppelbock; slightly earthy hops appear in the middle, but the finish is sweet
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A little to malty for my palate, as I would have preferred a bit more balance; if it was called a Doppelbock (I know, this is an ale, not a lager) I might have perceived it differently
