Notes: For coastal locals like us, the annual hurricane season is equal parts fun and terror. We all follow a series of storms with weird names like other folks follow pro sports teams, tracking paths and occasionally buying bulk batteries and jugs of spring water. The least we could do is brew some beer to help alleviate anxiety during these tense months. The Hurricane Series of IPAs, with varying strengths corresponding to each of the storm categories, is a public service of HCB.

Category 3, the first brewed in the series, was originally brewed on September 27th, 2011. It sits squarely in the middle of the IPA-ABV range, hence the category. Centennial hops dominate this one, used both in the boil and the dry-hop.

Growler poured into a Pint Glass.

Pours a hazy dark amber with a soapy white head that settles to a slight haze and leaves some sheets of lacing. Mild aromas of sweet, lightly toasted caramel malt and some grassy hops. Has a bit of an "English" feel to it. Taste follows the nose, sweet caramel malt and grass and grapefruit hop profile. Bit of a "creamed corn" finish, a common taste in all the Holy City offerings I've sampled. Mouthfeel is slick, with a medium body and decent carbonation. Overall a decent IPA, but if we're staying local I'll take COAST HopArt or Westbrook IPA any day!

A - Pours a nice copper with a solid finger of dense cream head, really awesome retention and lacing. This is the best looking HC brew I've poured.

S - Pretty strong malt presence, some nice citrusy hops as well. Simple but decent

T - Bitterness, slightly citrusy but more spicey. Little bit of a dry burn. Pretty good. Little bit of malty sweetness up front.

M - I like the mouthfeel, its fairly thick. Little but appropiate carbonation.

O - Looks great, desirable mouthfeel, nose is a little weak and taste is a somewhat one dimensional. Solid brew though, pretty tasty
