Doppelbock aged in Buffalo Trace –bals! Big thanks goes out to beeruser and funkydelic for sharing this one at a past Random Sunday Tasting! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured a massively dark brown with a half finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, dark fruit, wood, dark chocolate, bread, raisins, sweet alcohol, and vanilla. The flavor was of sweet malt, bread, dark fruit, smoke, wood, sweet alcohol, and vanilla. It had a light feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a fairly good brew. I will say that this was one of the most pure barrel beers that I have tasted in quite some time. The barrel was quite dominate here throughout. Granted this was definitely a good thing with this base doppelbock. There was tons of dark fruit to go around with some nice undertones of dark chocolate roastiness as well. This brought an excellent balance to the brew overall. Really glad I got the opportunity to try this one! Tick.
