Known as "Pilsner" in the USA.

Golden-yellow and bright, with 32 bitter units and quite hoppy compared to most of the other Pilsners our Weihenstephaner Pilsner comes up with a distinctive aroma of hops with a pleasant bitterness. This combination provides a balanced mix and guarantees great enjoyment. Brewed according to our centuries-old brewing tradition on the Weihenstephan hill.

From a bottle, head to head with Pilsner Urquell. They are both nice and hoppy. More than most pilsners. The Weihenstephaner has a little more malt sweetness but not too much. Still crisp. Great beer.

Clear straw color. Has a nice head with average retention and lacing.

Aroma is floral with plenty of doughy malt. Faint citrus and peppery spice.

Taste follows. Loaded with bready malt and a hint of honey. Hops are floral and subtly spicy.

Medium-light bodied with good carbonation. Dry. Very clean.

Overall, a very good pilsner. A bit on the sweeter side for a German pils but still nicely balanced.

Good clarity, only average head retention. Fresh floral aroma. Vibrant hop character for German-brewed, but still perfectly balanced. Finishes with just enough bitterness to make me want to take another sip. The judiciously amped up hop character makes this one really stand out. Like all W'stephaner beers, a notch above the competition, especially when fresh like this sample.

Drank straight from a bottle. Kinda metallic and intense. I gave a sip to a friend and oddly enough, he said it tasted like budweiser! Crazy! Upon first (or third sip), it’s a intense pilsner. You sip it and get malt, and then acute hop bite which last until the next sip. The malt honestly taste darker than other beers that have the same color, to me it taste oddly toasted. Not aggressively carbonated. This is my favorite pilsner I might have had so far. Germans have it lucky, for it to be so accessible for them.

I’m getting mostly malty sweetness and hops. Only a slight citrus note. Slight rye bread type note in the background. There’s cinnamon and pepper spice, and a bit of Creme brulee. What I love is how the beer progresses in the mouth. The first hit of flavor is malty with honey sweetness. The rye bread note appears right near the moment of transition between malt and hops and lingers temporarily in the background. Then the hops, which have a unique damp forest flavor with slight lemon and sea salt. Pine with moss and leaves. The hops linger in the aftertaste and become more bitter and purely pine-y. Pretty long finish. Very high quality and unique beer with a well-defined hop component. It’s a full, sturdy pilsner. Rich in flavor and a bit mysterious. Not purely easy drinking like some others. Definitely worth drinking now and then.

Pours a crystal clear yellow color with a foamy white head that provides a significant amount of lacing. Beautiful Pilsner.

The nose is very grassy, with a bit of lemon and a nice bready note, and that’s where the taste lands, with a crisp, clean finish. This is a pleasure to drink.

Clear, crisp golden pour with a sturdy pure white cap. Bread and grain dominate the nose. The taste is just classic German Pilsner--lemon, grass with a dry pilsner bite. I always consider pilsner a "mood" beer thanks to its singular refreshing bite. This one doesn't disappoint. A great choice when you're in the mood.

L: Pours a completely clear yellow with a dense white head that settles to a thin layer of foam and leaves spotty lacing.

S: Aromas of flowers, herbs, hay, bread, and some grains appear. It's a bit hop-forward.

T: Hop characters such as flowers, herbs, and hay dominate and are supported by malt notes of bread and grains. A bit of bitterness comes through rather sharply. It's quite dry for 30 IBU.

F: It's light-bodied, moderately carbonated, clean, crisp, refreshing, and finishes dry with a bit of hop bite.

O: It’s a very good example of this style. I might have it again sometime when I'm in the mood for a German Pilsner.

From bottle, taken from shelter at Total Wine. Pours a nice yellow color, nose is skunky though. Not a good start ..

Taste is malt right away with dryness that almost immediately enters, finishes dry. Not sure how old this is, but I'm hoping it's a skunked batch and not indicative of the actual taste...
