We cannot go through a wheat beer season without this traditional Dunkelweizen, a darker style, unfiltered wheat beer. A special type of Bavarian yeast yields the signature clove, banana and spice qualities that define a Bavarian style wheat beer. While the aroma comes entirely from the yeast, the darker malts will add slight flavors of chocolate and fig. The name DPAC Dunkel celebrates the Durham Performing Arts Center located 3 blocks south of BCBB. The DPAC opened on November 30, 2008 with B.B. King to a sell out crowd and has since been ranked annually among the top ten theaters in America.

Lighter than most dunkels I've seen, but still quite opaque, though the active carbonation gives it almost a creamy look. Lots of hops on the nose, though they're neither overpowering or overly strong. The taste is quite delicious and balanced. The hops are way subtler than you'd think from the smell, and it's malty without being overly heavy. The creaminess you can see is nice in the mouth. Overall, a great beer I really enjoyed and would revisit any time.

Poured from the tap into a weizen glass a hazed somewhat murky russet brown with a nicely defined off white head atop.Clove and banana aromas with a faint note chocolate.flavors are pretty light with clove spice being the main component, light banana as well as a wheat malt flavor in the finish.Pretty standard for the style but it's pretty drinkable.
