473ml can served cold into a chalice. LCBO purchase for around $3.75 CDN. Canned August 25, 2023.
Appearance - Dark brown in color with some purple-ish highlights coming from the can. Nearly two fingers of fluffy light tan head and pretty good staying power. Small swaths of curtain lacing.
Smell - Dark roasted malts, hints of bittersweet chocolate and a cakey, dark cherry aroma. Pretty much liquid form of Black forest cake. Moderate intensity.
Taste - Surprisingly bitter and roasted character, lots of dark chocolate, plenty of bitterness and some char and maybe even smoke. Not getting much cherry, maybe just a pihc in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Slightly on the heavier side of medium bodied, modest carbonation and maybe a slight chalkiness. Easy drinking, but more of a sipper as far as a lager would go.
Overall - A pretty good effort, a very solid dark beer, but the cherry doesn't really come through in the flavor, not that it was expected to be super pronounced, it's just extremely hidden. The feel is a bit heavy but the base roastiness and flavor is delightful for a late fall brew, I rather enjoyed this and will likely seek out a couple more.
