This one is just AMAZING! This is absolutely fabulous. This is a beer... a beer I’d love to drink WITH alcohol.
Okay, let’s start from the beginning. This comes from Ikea, one of their Seasonal Christmas beers sold only in Japan. Oh, almost forgot: they are low alc.
So what could 0.3% ABV give me, I thought? Was pretty prejudiced(?) about this. Been kept putting it off until one night - tonight - I finally decided to open it. And there it was.
Poured like a NEIPA. Hazy, thick, pieces of orange in the brew. Impressive! So thick it looks like real orange juice (which it is, to an extent.) Then came the aroma.
And what an aroma! The zesty mandarine combined perfectly with juicy hops... nothing unheard of (unsmelled, that is) some great Wests Coast IPAs had really great zesty, tropical aroma similar to this. Made me want to dive in immediately.
And then came the boom. The flavor. This beer supersedes that fruitiness of the aroma. While some great IPAs are eventually “just beers” in the end, this one is not. While it is less for not having a decent amount of alcohol in it, it is also more. And it is much much more, believe me. It IS 100% fruit juice, zesty, citrusy, tropical, super fresh mandarine juice. But you also get the hops, and the beer quality and it is fantastic. The aroma is truly hoppy and the dry-hopped overnotes are there all along and it’s fantastic. And you’re drinking it like juice, super easy to drink, it is like a “beer juice!”
And you are not even missing the alcohol! Okay, I know, and I admit: I would never choose a non-al over a “proper” beer. But this one, this one proved me that you don’t have to have any ABV in there for you to enjoy a beer. Of course, you could say that if it was an in-your-face IPA with 7+ ABV, it would just be a killer, and no doubt, for sure, but I have got to say that I totally enjoyed this, the way it was. Just look at my ratings. To the extent that I feel like I want to go back and buy it again (before it’s gone for good.) a masterpiece. Got to check out this Omnipollo what they are up to...
