Very thin and not much smoke flavor at all. A very boring schwarz.

A nice schwarzbier. Nice flavor. Remember these are not supposed to be stouts.

Very mild flavor. Not a lot of body either.

a bit light in color for a schwartzbier otherwise it had a good appearance. Smell was modest and not revealing of the greater depth of flavor to be revealed. Mouth feel carbonated and with a bit of a bite.

On tap:
Pours a deeper brown, pretty clear if you look at a lower volume pour. There is a nice amount if small bubbled head that becomes a bit foamy before receding to the edges. There is nice lacing initially, but minimal later in the pour.
The nose is light and somewhat indistinct. A little bit of floral hops and a hint of earthy spice is about the best I can come up with.
Taste start off a bit cola-like, with maybe some light brown sugar, but the hop bitterness (noble in nature) take hold pretty quickly. The toasted malt does stand up well against the bittering agents. The feel is medium light, with a subdued but noticeable and somehow lingering(?) carbonation.
A fine beer. I liked my initial sips more than the later ones. Haven't rated many shwarzbiers, but this one reminded me in different ways of a porter and a British pale ale.

On draft at the brewery, pours a very dark brown, almost black color with a big fluffy and full slightly off white head.
The nose is roasted malt, toast, cocoa powder, dark malt and earthy bitter hops. The flavor is more dry than sweet, lots of roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate, bitter hops, bread crust, just a touch of dark fruit. It is extremely light bodied, very drinkable, with a smooth velvet like finish. It tastes almost like it is on nitro. Very clean, crisp and refreshing on a cold fall day. Very good, I like it.
