Originally brewed as part of our Brewers’ Series, The Incurable Sadness was such a hit we brewed a larger batch for can. This Irish Cry Stout – which conveniently released on St. Patrick’s Day 2018 – is the brainchild of brewer Colm Kelly.
Tasting Notes: Brewed with an Irish Ale yeast, Willamette hops, and a mix of 2-Row malts, toasted flaked barley and roasted barley, The Incurable Sadness is a classic Irish Dry Stout with a deep roast character and pleasant bitterness.

Pours near black, some ruby tint near the edges; cola-like 1" head with good streak of lacing. Nose is roasted malt, roasted barley, light cola, light noble hop aromas. Taste dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, baking chocolate, coffee ground, Turkish coffee. Very pleasant, dry, earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is moderate and would feel fuller save some strong carbonation. Overall, a really pleasant beer.

16oz can into a tall glass. Canned 3/2/21, so 4 months old.
Looks decent in the glass. Jet black body, big foamy tan head which shrinks to a collar. A little lacing early on.
Aroma of lightly roasted malt and a little sweetness comes through.
On tasting, roast is about medium. There is a faint apple core. Extremely dry.
Mouth medium, finish very dry with the barest hint of sweetness.
Overall, good beer, pretty flavorable, roast hangs around but not overdone.
