2019’s iteration of the brewery’s popular summer seasonal has a lower gravity than past brewings, reducing Space Reaper to a more traditional IPA variation with a more drinkable 6% ABV. Otherwise, the recipe remains unchanged incorporating Mosaic hops with a blend of Canadian 2-row, CaraPils, C-60 and Wheat malt.
Even at a lower ABV, Spawn of Space Reaper still hits all the notes that one would expect from the DIPA version with a complex aromatic array of mango, citrus, berry and tropical fruit and an agreeable herbal note to round it out,
This IPA may not unlock all the secrets of this universe, but it will show you what lies beyond the palate, with a generous reaping of mosaic hops, sure to take you on the ride of your afterlife. Brewed to welcome the summer solstice, Space Reaper incorporates the Mosaic hop – one of the most sought-after aroma hops out there – with Canadian 2-row, CaraPils, C-60 and Wheat malts, and dextrose.
Color: Orange Copper
IBU: 100

Canned 6-28-19
Pours honey colored, light head and lacing. Aroma is pretty basic floral, light malt and a swish of berries. Taste is of a good bit tropical and floral hops, and a very smooth malt backbone. MF is light, but not watery. Mild carbonation, no bitterness.
Very well put together low ABV beer from DCBBC.

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Real nice clear and beaming bronze shiny body color. Slightly soapy white head, but settles to a nice big thick soapy cling of lacing and very chunky collar.
Very delicious hop aromatics. Juiced touches of pine and orange citrus character. Thick reaching earth but pulls back away from dank or real thick muddy tones to let some of the fruit quality shine. Hits a possible amount of mango hiding as well.
Palate takes a more straightforward approach. Basic flavor balance of malt and hop with an angle that goes to a touch of bitter apricot, but with reaching earthy and almost dank tones creeping in. Small earthy tones on the finish with a touch of hop oil and faint sweet oils.
Fairly straightforward, and checking notes compared to it's brother, more of a tuned down earth quality. Still a decent IPA, but some things seem to be lost compared to its big brother.

16oz can into an IPA glass
Look: A very clear, light orange bordering yellow. A white finger-width head with decent retention, and some lacing on the side of the glass.
Smell: Mostly tropical fruit, mango, pineapple, and some grapefruit. A sweeter note on the end.
Taste: Again, tropical fruit and citrus. There's a malty sweetness on the back end.
Feel: Pretty soft on the tongue, with very fine bubbles.
Overall: While I like this beer, it tastes kind of like an all-around muted version of it's larger DIPA brother, Space Reaper. Tasty, but give me the real Reaper any day!
