Sample at Max's on 4/28/14 (from notes)

A: Clear. Lacing. Light copper

S: Quite hoppy with a lot of pine.

T: Hoppy but in that APA body. Good flavor.

M: Small tickling bubbles. Slight prick at the end.

O: Great for a pale ale and that is saying a lot from me.

Pours hazy, dirty-yellow with some orange. Small round bubbles coat the whole surface, and the carbonation clings to the sides. I don't get much from the smell, but it seemed earthy.

The taste is bitter most of the way, but not overly strong at any point. The taste is woody, earthy. The bitterness grows with pine and a slight bit of grapefruit in the background. I don't get much of a malt presence, the base seeming fairly neutral in flavor, maybe almost watery.

For a pale ale, this is pretty straightforward. I can't think of anything special to remember about the beer, but it works overall.

Grabbed a growler at my local Whole Foods in NOVA right as they were putting the tap on. Booya!

Brewed with Chinook and Mosaic.

Served in a DC Brau tulip.

A: Nice, bright, melted popsicle orange with a nice soft white head that clung to the glass as the brew was being siphoned.

S: Orange jest in spaces with a bit of yeasty component along with some Pixie Stick dust. Definitely not a hop or fruit bomb. I'm thinking the chug factor is going to be great.

T: Orange juice with about 1/2 the sugar, some white pepper, and a strong grapefruit tug on the heartstrings at the end. Took a sip... then a gulp.... then another. You get the idea.

M: Strong bitterness on the end, but not too. I really like how the sweetness and white pepper played a nice duet. Prickly carbonation.

O: While this definitely won't replace "The Public," this had a lot of that same DC magic!
