Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 7.4%. Black colour, moderate beige head. Lovely hoppy aroma (Cascade and Pacific Jade), fruity and vinous notes, also mild roasty notes. Equally pleasant flavour, with the same elements as the aroma. Well balanced and very enjoyable.

From 330ml bottle into an IPA glass.

Very dark, almost black, with ruby edging. Opaque when held to the light. One finger tan head recedes very quickly to a patchy film. A swirl rebuilds the head for a short time.

Spicy hops. Liquorice. Some floral tones. Alcohol.

Treacle. Black pepper. Hints of sweetness and chocolate appear in the finish. Some booze.

Medium to full body. Plenty of bitterness.

This is very different to the 5% Conqueror Black IPA. As promised on the label, the hops are very much to the fore. It's a robust, confrontational style. A bit too much treacle for me, although I appreciate that's the style. I prefer the lower ABV, less intensely hopped version.

 

Sampled from a 12oz bottle while in London. A light black with some light coming through around the edges and a minimal tan head. Aroma is fruity and floral hops with a mild malt sweetness. Flavor is fruity and moderately sweet with a hint of chocolate and a slightly roasted finish. I thought it was a bit too sweet and didn't think the various flavors came together as well as they should have. The consistency is a bit creamy with a nice low carbonation. Overall a decent beer.

Rightly or wrongly I'm pouring my 330ml bottle (BBD 26 May 2014) into a Forbidden Fruit chalice at home on 10 Jul 2013.

It looked OK: bright sunlight always helps. Dark with a tanned collar and wisp, no head even tried to appear. A pity, because I always think a good head on top of a beer indicates good conditioning and a healthy product. In this case however the lack of head is made up for in the aroma and flavours.

Lovely aroma of rich over roasted ground coffee with chilli chocolate bits in the mix.

The taste is also over roasted coffee with deep, bitter chocolate notes throughout.

Lovely brew, only the head let it down: rich and full of flavour.

Viscous chocolate brown with a cappuccino ribbon of foam that's gone fast but trails.
Burnt rubber, oily coffee and lemon Italian ice on the nose.
Treacle, fig, and dark cocoa nibs with orange ring and pine resin hops.
Chocolate bark finish and tingly peppermint linger. Medium to full, lots of chew, light fizz.

August 15 BB date, so left this one a little long. Probably the biggest Black IPA I've had, definitely plays like a hoppy porter, even an Imperial one. And though the OG is in the name, I'd be curious where it finished and if it isn't a bit under-attenuated. Hops are there in broad strokes, but don't jump with brightness like maybe they should (which, again, could be my fault). Almost seems likes the hops were kicked up along with the gravity.

A bit plodding, and misses the mark somehow.

 

330ml Bottle, consumed 2 months before best before. Drunk from Brew Dog goblet.

A: Dark brown, balsamic vinegar esque, crimson highlights. Dark tan head about half a finger width with little retention.

S: Refreshing citrus and hops with burnt coffee undertones.

T: The bitter hop washes the palate cleanly before flashing unripe grapefruit flowing into Marmite and burn coffee undertones. A long bitter finish in the back of the throat. Not overly carbonated though you get an enjoyable tingle of it at the start. Tastes more bitter when swigged. The booze is hidden well.

O: Too bitter for my tastes though it was an enjoyable enough drink. I may have it again later, perhaps on a summer evening.

A: Deep brown, nearly black body with clear red highlights and a thin tan head. Not much in the way of retention or lac,e but a nice color.

S: Terrific balance of coffee-forward malt and brightly piney hops. Simple rich, and great.

T: Follows the nose, with the added bonus of some caramel and chocolatey malt notes. The hops take over and dry out the finish nicely with solid bitterness, completely cleaning out the sweet malts. Mild booze (rumor has it this is over 7.4%, but is listed as such to avoid a new tax on high-gravity beers - shh!), but still delicious.

M: A bit light on carbonation, but a nice solid medium body. Ok.

O: Great Black IPA. Tons of flavor, and happily little of the astringency that so often plagues this trendy style.

Poured from a 330ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a deep dark black with a really nice off white/tan head. Looks alot thicker than the other conqueror.

Smells faint, nicely dark and malty though, burnt almost.

Tastes even lovelier, alot thicker and the dark flavours seem more intense, as does the bitter hop finish, though again it doesn't seem to be too overbearing.

Overall another fantastic W&E beer. Just brilliant.

This is a hopped up - sexed up version of the standard Conqeuror Black IPA (5% ABV)

Deep chocolate brown verging on black in colouration with a pretty thin tan head

Brewed with Cascade and Pacific Jade whole leaf hops and 5 speciality malts, this is a rich and complex beer

Great hoppy smell and flavour to the beast

Licquorice taste, dried fruits maybe something tropical in there? Hints of toffee, maybe even a faint taste of coffee? There's a lot going on in the glass

A great beer from a great new brewery (been brewing little over a year now)

Some 7 or 8 cask barrels were also released into the wild and I was also lucky enough to sample this in that format at Egham beer festival - it didn't disappoint!
