I visited Icicle on a recent trip to Leavenworth on my way to go camping. It's right in the heart of the tourist bustle, with a big outdoor seating area and a counter geared toward to-go and quick-service sales. They had 10 taps when I visited, including 4 flagships and 6 rotating/seasonal offerings; I liked the Bootjack IPA, one of the flagships. Service was friendly enough, although they are geared a little bit more for throughput rather than chatting. A decent place to get a beer in the sun.

Casual indoor/outdoor beer garden on the east side of the Cascade mountains in a quaint bavarian village. Good selection of craft beers. Growlers available.

This place has nice out door seating with a nice gas fire pit. The Seahawks game was on, so the vibe was great. There are many tourists, so it was nice and easy to meet people sitting around the fire. Service was decent, and the selection was as expected. I did not have any of their food.

Beautiful outside patio, seat yourself and grab your own beer at the bar inside. Beer may be less than amazing but still great considering where you are. Growler prices are insane, refills are ok priced. Went during pear festival in April, healthy food options available year round.

A solid spot at the end of the sensory overload strip that is Leavenworth. Very convenient to some fantastic hiking/backpacking destinations and many brews are named for peaks in the area.

lots of seating out front, but Leavenworth is scorching in the summer so on both of my post-hike visits this year, i have chosen to find a corner inside.

food offerings are minimal. head to munchen haus down the street for a sausage and some more icicle brew.

good taplist - 8ish taps + guests. The IPA is really great and refreshing on a hot day. This is a brewery to watch in the coming years.

Visited on 8/12/11 and 8/14/11, while coming and going from the Entiat River valley (this review from notes taken 8/14/11):

Atmosphere - Essentially, it's just a brewing warehouse, but much better presented with a beautiful building and great interior-to-exterior drinking space. Most of the seating is exterior in front of the building, with modern wood/iron tables and benches. The exterior space connects to the interior through large doors, and the bar is almost immediately inside, presenting its broad front to the street. Behind the bar is a full-story drop into a three-story high brewing space, all of it beautifully appointed architecturally-speaking. For all it's beauty though, it comes across as somewhat slick, with the oppenness and brightness meant to sooth the nerves of cautious tourists. Because of that, it lacks some of the homey idiosyncrasies and quaint ghettoness that some beer geeks might prefer.

Service - Friendly and jovial. Offered a little insider knowledge of the beer, and enthusiastic about you being there.

Selection - 7 taps consisting solely of their own beers, but including all of their beers, so I give them higher marks for having everything out that they produce.

Quality - The lighters beers (wheat, lager, kolsch) went from "meh" to "hey-that's-decent", and I really appreciated the krispness and karbonation of the kolsch. The IPA had an awesome scent, but the flavor didn't back it up with enough intensity (a Coors Light fan with me liked the IPA the best...egads!). The marzen was a solid festbier but just short of the right flavor intensity. The porter was very flavorful compared to the rest, though only above average as far as porters go. Their summer-seasonal raspberry wheat surpassed most other raspberry beers I've had, and with a slice of lemon, the two types of fruit tart carried out a duel in my mouth, and was still satisfyingly refreshing.

Food - No kitchen, so I didn't score it on the food, but Icicle makes more of an effort than just throwing pretzel sticks at you: cold cuts, cheese slices, veggie sticks kept in a dressed-up Subway cold case with locally-baked rolls, all presented on broad ceramic plates in varying configurations to produce 5 or so distinct menu items. It's not pretzel sticks, but it's not a whole lot more either, though they made use of the space they had. Save your appetite for the sausages cooked down the street at Munchenhaus (owned by some of the same folks who own Icicle, incidentally).

Value - $4.50 a pint is pretty decent. $9 for 6 four oz samples, $15 for 6 eight oz samples. Your food dollars are better spent elsewhere. $32 for the metal-handled stein-type flip top growlers, which I believe is the cheapest I've seen. $8 growler fill Thursdays, $10 regular. Slightly to the economical side of average in the value department.

Overall - Definitely worth a try! Given the Leavenworth location, I get the feeling the beers are kept to the mild side so as not to offend tourists. Because of this, I wouldn't consider Icicle a beer-geek pilgrimage destination. But if you're going to be going through Leavenworth or anywhere near it, why not swing by, check out the beautiful building and friendly service, and try out a pint or two.

It's tough to believe that up until recently Leavenworth didn't have a local brewery. Lucky for them not only do they now have a one, it's pretty damn good too.

We stopped here and I was instantly impressed with the look of the place. Very clean and modern looking without becoming cold and uninviting. The staff, though young, were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. We tried the sampler first and both the girlfriend and myself enjoyed every beer we were presented with in our sampler tray. The standout for me was the IPA and Pale ... while the girlfriend was blown away by the lager (which I also really enjoyed). She liked it so much we made a trip back the next day for more ... unfortunately they were out of the lager. They were also out of the Wheat beer too. If not for that the selection score would have definitely been higher. They only recently opened so it's tough to knock them too much for not having all the kinks worked out.

I'll be really happy if Icicle starts sending kegs up to Seattle. They definitely have made a very promising start!
