Braumanufaktur Forsthaus Templin "Potsdamer Stange"
3€/,3L on tap at the brewery on 2 October 2021
Notes: Potsdamer Stangenbier was a regional specialty, probably about 200 years old or so, but it died out in popularity and completely disappeared in the 1970's. It's said to be brewed with weizen yeast but due to a cooler fermentation the banana-like esters are subdued. It may or may not be brewed with wheat, although this one certainly is. It's naturally carbonated, and a bit more carbonated and effervescent than some. More foam is produced as you pour it and that's why the tall "stange" glasses were used.
Look: Cloudy deep gold in color beneath a full head of dense bright white foam. The head retention and lacing are both very good.
Smell: Sweetish, wheaty and bready malt with a fairly strong fruitiness. No hops are present.
Taste: As the aroma suggests it's fruity with a low sweetness. It's grainy and wheaty. Notes of berry, plum, apple, and banana. Low level bitterness but with a slight touch of acidity as well. Mostly dry in the finish.
Feel: Medium bodied and zesty.
Overall: Interesting beer. It's unique, and highly quaffable.

Pours a golden-amber colored beer, unfiltered with a nice, froth head.
Smells of tart yeast, white bread dough, dried herbs and a sweet, well pronounced toffee note.
Has a lower carbonation, drinks almost flat with a very thin mouthfeel, which turns entirely watery during the finish.
Tastes of straw and malts with a whiff of garden herbs and sweet toffee. Turns overly flat and watery and flat with lots of prevailing toffee.
This is simply too thin and one dimensional to become decent.

A: Head is not like the one on the picture on the bottle, about half a centimeter at best. And it's not as bright as the photo either. A dull, dirty bronze color. slow rising carbonation.
S: Very interesting and nice scent. Like a homemade cream soda. Hawaiian bread. Vanilla. Delicious.
T: Oh my god, what the hell kind of beer is this? It tastes like cream soda! I love it! I remember having this beer before and liking it, but now as a wannabe beer nerd, much respect. But also unlike any beer, particularly a German beer, that I've ever tasted. Same descriptors as the smell surprisingly.
M: Really goes hand in hand with the flavor somehow. Very smooth yet an ice cream float like texture except even softer.
O: New favorite German beer. So psyched I can buy this down the street (Bio Company). And it's organic!!!
Update: Ok, so I've had a total of 4 of them now, from different batches, and I must say that the first one was better than the other ones. When it's on, it's on. When it's off, it's still good but not as special.

One cold January Sunday afternoon I visited the brewpub and tried all four beers available: this being the third.
It came semi-cloudy in a tall glass containing 0.3 litres, the head an off-white cap of bubbles, body wise the colour was pale amber. I don’t want to suggest this brewpub have one standard brew then tinker with the mash to produce slightly different beers, but that does appear to be the case as this could easily have been a blend of the Hell and Dunkel. A little more ‘yeasty’ in the smell and taste maybe; but otherwise very ‘samey’ to my first two beers in the bar. They advertise as being an ‘Alles Bio-Biere’ Brewery, if that makes any difference?
Anyway I enjoyed it, even though I’d had two of its half brothers already that afternoon. It had more depth of body even though the alcohol level was down 0.1% ABV compared to the other beers.
