Aroma is grapefruit/juice and an undercurrent of sweet malts. The flavor is grapefruit, mild lime, tropical fruit, an undercurrent of earthy/sweetish malts and a tart/dryish finish.

Note: Bottled 18 July 2014

A: Pours a pale yellow in color with moderate to heavy amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and faint golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy foamy off-white head that reduces to a medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit, citrus/grapefruit rind, and citrus/lime zest over the top of light to moderate aromas of sour wheat.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of slightly sour wheat which is followed quickly by the flavors of citrus - grapefruit, grapefruit rind, and lime zest. Light to moderate flavors of lacto sourness which lingers through the finish. Minimal amounts of bitterness.

M: Light bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Crisp with a light to moderate amount of acidic prickliness.

O: A very interesting take on a Berliner Weissbier - the additions of citrus (rather than the traditional syrups) adds to the tartness of the beer as well as improving the drinkability. Very enjoyable.

In high celebration of what's tangy, bitter, sour and crisp; the brewers of Buxton and Omnipollo turn to the historic sour ales of northern Germany which already demonstrates many of these flavors through its lactic fermentation alone.

Their sour wheat collaboration is pale canary in color and carries a bright and hazy glow. Its cottony froth carry a host of pungent perfumes that circulate around dried, leathery citrus, burlap and bread dough. Short in its sweetness, the early palate is rewarded with the sweet and sour interplay of warhead candies.

But as the creaminess, sweetness and grain effects lift from the palate, the carbonation ushers in a host of fruitiness. Though overt grapefruit and lime lead the way, the ale proudly deliver lemon, gooseberry, passionfruit, pineapple and under-ripened mango and berry to its sour and bitter taste. The light and earthy brine is softly of mineral, weathered balsa and cork ahead of a quick and refreshing finish.

Light and creamy on the palate, the medium-light beer is propped up with wheat, giving a bready tone throughout. But its sheer acidity lightens and brightens the palate with its own zest and zeal. The ale strips al thirst from the palate with ease and leaves the tastebuds begging for another.
