Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country...
L- Inky black, even held to a halogen bulb no light gets through. Poured with just a thin ring of dark tan bubbles. I could smell the clearly high ABV% here from 30Cm away so head-formation had no chance.
S- I got a liquor note, so I imagine it's liquor-barrel aged. Liquor isn't something I know much about but this smells like whisky.
T- OMG!!... Thumper of a black beer! This is MASSIVE. Liquor, and it builds and builds. Then deep pungent malts. The roof of my mouth feels like it's 'pruning' but I suspect that's from the sheer heft of the ABV% here versus hops. The finish has a big cocoa aspect within it too. Finally I also get some ABV%-zing on the way down. I even wonder whether this might have a hint of chili in it as the zing on the roof of my mouth really lingers a surprisingly long time.
F- Massively impactful. Perfect for slow-sipping in winter
O- Phoooo! A master-blaster of a liquor barrel aged black beer. Wonderful to try. This is SOOO big that it might make for a one-off or occasional treat. Hard to imagine anyone wanting this much drama on a regular basis. This beer will irk beers fans who think nakedly high ABV% aspects lack class.
Right now I'm thinking whisky barrel, a hint of added chili...
Review 1957/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==> Unfilt/unpast. 3 grain. Imperial porter. Cocoa and chilli .... haha, gotcha. No details on what liquor barrel is used here...
330ml bottle BB: Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
