probably the best of a woeful bunch (Corby)
I mean it's almost a brown ale
Bottled sadly with clear glass
This at least hand some aroma other than skunking and flavour other than metallic

Pours amber with a fading head.
Nose shows tangerine, mandarin and resinous pine along with a fair whack of sweet clean malt.
Rich flavours with lots of sweet malt and slightly nutty notes followed by big spicy and resinous hops.

A 330ml bottle with a bottled-on date of Aug 2013. Picked up a while back from Trembling Madness in York. Described on the label as bold and piny - hope it's still in good nick.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A deep, hazy orange-amber hue with tons of floating sediment and medium carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Slight lacing. Aroma of intense fruity hops with hints of pine resin, weed, grapefruit, peel, citrus, earthy yeast, caramel malt and stewed hops. Packs a punch.

Tastes of powerful aromatic hops with a stinging bitter finish. Notes of pine resin, dank weed, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus, subtle white fruit, earthy yeast, caramel malt, a twinge of mould/funk and stewed hops. Faintly sweet, followed by an overwhelming hop-driven bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with pleasant carbonation and good body. Hop oils stimulate the palate. Rather astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, pine, earthy yeast and stewed leaves.

An avalanche of hops assault the senses. Looks alright, if a little cloudy. Aroma and flavour are seriously hoppy with plenty of pine and citrus in evidence. Good body. I reckon some of the hoppiness has faded, but it still drills the tastebuds. A solid effort that is worth sampling if you come across it.

Bottle and keg, special
After a long wait, our Special Reserve No.5 is pretty much ready. it’s an 8.4% big, bold, double IPA. It’s fresh, piney, big-bodied and with a bitterness that’ll slap you in the chops.
