On tap at the brewpub last night. From their one barrel only Abandoned Sour Series, this beer was fermenting for 22 months according to our well informed waitress. Based on the brewpubs Midsummers Night Saison beer, in honor of the Bloomsburg Ensemble actors group.
Arrives in a smalll 10oz goblet. Looked a murky dirty peach color with a small head which dissipated but could easily be restored with a swirl of the glass. No carbonation could be detected due to appearance.
Smell was simply delicious. Melons, lottsa melon, full and powerful. A faint alcohol whiff.
The taste led to an odd situation where there was so much going on that I spent half the time trying to figure out whether I liked it or not. The melon taste came through, with some other citrus fruit. Lemongrass was strong, and although I didn't get the ginger in taste, there was a heat in the back of the mouth which hinted at ginger. Sours and bitterness washed through the mouth, staying on the sides of the tongue. Lemongrass seemed to be the most dominant flavor, but at times the other flavors came through.
Mouth was a full flavor, medium feel.
Overall, an enjoyable experience. I like a beer than challenges me a bit. Not likely I could drink these all night long, but a great one to try, and to muse over. Enjoy!
