Larnaka 20/7 2017. 50 cl can from BG-Zaria Mini market (Bulgarian outfit). Bulgarian text on the can but also a roaring lion. ABV of 4,8 (not 4,0).
Pours clear yellow with bubbly white head. Settles as flimsy remnants of foam. No lacing.
Aroma is sweet malts, grains and light fruity, sour notes.
Medium strong carbonation and watery palate.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by a more distinct bitterness. A little rough. Aftertaste is bitter with some burnt rubber thrown in.
A relief with an Eastern European pale lager which is not sweet and flat. But I could do without the burnt rubber.

Very pale straw appearance. Starts with a big head thatvquickly recedes leaving slight lacing and thin foam layer on top of the beer in a tall Pilsner glass. Medium carbonation.
Smell is sweet with pleasant grassy hop notes.
Taste is well balanced. Good malty sweetness combines with mild bitterness and slight herbal hop flavours. There is also a metallic note which one finds in some very good German lagers and is, in my humble opinion, an acceptable characteristic and not a flaw. The flavour is rather bland and doesn't have any outstanding features.
Overall, a good but not special European lager. Better than Heineken, Stella etc but not as good as Bitburger, Warsteiner, Urquell or any of the better mass produced European lagers.

1 litre brown plastic bottle with generic label and plastic screw-top acquired at a Picadilly supermarket in Sofia, Bulgaria and served into a Starpramen pilsner glass in me friend's gaff in Sofia. Reviewed live. Expectations are low given the packaging and price (less than 1 euro). 4.8% ABV per the label.
Served cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
No bubble show forms as it's poured.
HEAD: Pours no head whatsoever, and leaves no lacing.
BODY: Clear yellow colour. Clean; no yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible. Appears adequately carbonated. Could be watery.
Far from unique or special. Below average for the style. I can't say I'm excited to try it.
AROMA: Sweet malts, clean barley, and a kiss of floral hop notes. The overdone sweetness is off-putting.
I find no off-notes, alcohol, or interesting hop notes.
It's an inoffensive aroma of average strength. Offers little to the discerning drinkers and suggests an underwhelming unremarkable brew.
TASTE: Clean barley, overly sweet generic malts, and a hint of unremarkable hop flavour. There's little of interest here - no interesting hop notes, not much in terms of malt flavour, and no yeast. This is about as boring and generic as they come, but I'm grateful it's not metallic, plasticky, watery, etc.
Brief flavour duration. Shallow depth of flavour. Average intensity of flavour. Painfully simple. There's no complexity, subtlety, nuance, or intricacy here.
TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, light-bodied, overcarbonated, and unrefreshing. Texture doesn't really suit the flavour profile or style all that well. Subpar execution.
Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, or harsh.
OVERALL: It's downable, sure, but completely unremarkable and boring. I dig the price point, and the quality could be far worse. It's a decent little table beer, but I wouldn't bother with it again. The discerning drinker will be unimpressed, but casual beer fans will enjoy the relatively favorable price to quality ratio. That said, I wouldn't recommend it to friends. Meh.

The name of this beer translates to "Shumensko Light" - so this is the "lighter" version of the normal Shumensko. I don't really know what that entails, since both are Euro Pales (no adjucts) but here it goes...
Appearance: Poured from the 2 liter bottle into a large Shumensko branded mug. The beer is a light pale color topped with a 2 finger head with moderate retention.
Smell: Not much here... faint grain or bread. A hint of cooked veggies and some sort of sourness.
Taste: Not much to say here. Not much taste as it enters the mouth. Watery in the midpalate with ever so slight crackery malt. Finishes with a slightly-off bitterness and some grain.
Mouthfeel: Just about what you would expect.
Drinkability: People here have been known to knock back a 2 liter of this stuff often....

500ml brown bottle. Altho there is no freshness date on the bottle, the lack of dust on this sample compared to others in this section, leads me to believe it is a recent addition to the store.
Very light yellow with a spritzy white head.
Aroma is grainy with a touch of honey.
Flavor is husky grain and doughy bread. Light skunk starting to show.
