330ml bottle bought online from McHughs.ie
Poured a mahogany red colour with a slight haze. Tan head poured pretty thick and fizzy and faded almost instantly to thin ring around the edge... no real carbonation...
Aroma is pretty complex... candied fruits and peel (currents, pear, orange, figs), hint of rum and raisin, citrus and piney hops, black pepper, some rubberiness, toasted sweet malt loaf, toffee, some slightly stewed veg notes, caramalised nuts, molasses sugar....
Taste is pretty much as above... sweet malts followed by resiny pine and citrus hop bitterness. Again lots of candied fruits... muscovado sugar, light liquorice, peppery, light chocolate, toffee...
Feel - Smooth initially then becomes quite sharp on the tongue soon after... medium / full bodied... Maybe a little too heavy on the bitterness to be very drinkable
Overall - A pretty good brew if a little rough and harsh around the edges... not something you'd want to drink a lot of but certainly worth a try...

Pours a vibrant ruby colour. Crisp, clean floral hop aroma. Very crisp and bitter, hop-resin, slight roastedness and sweetness from the malts. Quite crisp.

Amber-cardinal with craggy sienna head. 4
Leaf, orange rind, and spruce nose. 3.75
Toffee, golden raisin, and pear cake then orange peel, slight resin, and passionfruit hops. Odd celery tang as it opens. 4
A speck of chocolate to finish and searingly numbing linger.
Almost medium, sticky, oily. 4
Chinook, Simcoe, Amarillo
Leaving aside that there’s not such thing as a Red IPA, what I want from my hoppy ambers is caramel sweetness balanced by lots of fruity aroma hops. What I get here is the 75 IBUs hitting like they’re 90 - this is among the most straight-up bitter IPAs ever to come out of Ireland. That, unfortunately, is at the expense of all the candied citrus goodness this style can do.
Based on my high expectation of both amber and 8D, underwhelming. 3.75
