330ml bottle bought online from Mchughs.ie
Poured a dark copper amber colour with a faint haziness. Slightly off white head poured big, thick and foamy then faded slowly to decent thickish covering... no carbonation at all... some light lines of lacing..
Aroma is quite subdued - some light spicy and juicy fruits (pineapple, grapefruit, pears and apples), lightly toasted caramel maltiness, fresh citrus and piney hops just coming through, burnt sugar sweetness, light tobacco, cut wet grass, sea salt notes, no real hint of the 10% alcohol, peppery, marzipan...
Taste is better - Rich caramel maltiness followed by piney and grassy hop bitterness, some burnt toffee sweetness, toasted bready notes, some butterscotch, (over) ripe fruits (bananas, bitter oranges, figs), toasted nuts, quite peppery, some medicinal and liquorice notes, again the alcohol is not present...
M&D - Rich and smooth... full bodied... This one is definitely a sipper even if the alcohol is incredibly well hidden
Overall - A decent enough Barleywine although i would have liked the hops pumped up a bit - not really getting the 91 IBUs !! Tastes like a hoppy barleywine that has been aged for a couple of years... Defininetly worth a try though...

Amber-brown with film of French vanilla. 3.75
Dim orange blossom and caramel sauce. 3.75
Caramel soaked pear-ginger cake then vague orange and resin hops. 3.75
Med-full, chewy, salty. 4
Centennial and Cascade
Where’s the hops? Doesn’t hit 60 IBUs, never mind 90. Plenty of winter sweetness, but more in the Foam and Fury mold - not the kind of barleywine (English or not) that I’d expect from 8 Degrees. 3.75
