Chocofrut is our 5 Rabbit melding of luscious, chocolatey dark-roasted malts and the bright flavors of real fruit, for a series of beers that are creamy, fruity and ultra smooth. In the world of beer, ChocoFrut is a rare confection.
This Zarzamora version uses six different malts and real blackberry in the fermenter.

Poured from 750ml bottle into glass. No dating information found on bottle nor on label.
Very dark brown, cola colored body. Opaque. Each pour brings forth a fizzy, tan head which goes away quickly. No lacing.
Lots of chocolate and berry in the aroma. Dark roasted malts. Smells creamy and smooth in the nose.
Swirling flavors through the taste profile. High up is the chocolate (milk and dark) and solid underneath is the blackberry fruit. The chocolate and roasted malts have sweet and bitter aspects, while the blackberry has a hint of berry sweetness but quite a bit of tartness.
Medium mouth feel, with some creaminess and smoothness. Good carbonation. Rising bubbles can be seen at the surface throughout the drinking experience.
Not outstanding, but a tasty exercise in melding a particular berry with a dark stout base. Quite easy to drink, and the head fizziness with each pour is its own attraction. I would like to try the other beers in the ChocoFrut series.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Cigar City goblet.
A: Very dark brown, essentially opaque, with a half-finger of tan head and low visible carbonation. Appears a little thin during the pour.
S: Cacao, roasted malts, dark roasted coffee, and a light fruity sweetness. Hints of vanilla. I’m thinking this may need to warm some to open up...
NOTE: The aroma never really changed.
T: Dark chocolate, bitter cacao, and roasted coffee. Dark roasted malts add a touch of bitterness. Near to and after the swallow comes the blackberry sweetness with mild to more pronounced (depending on the swallow) blackberry bite (almost tart). The chocolate rejoins the mix as the berry fades.
M: Body is on the thin side for a stout, as are so many fruited stouts. Alcohol presence is well-hidden, though the listed ABV is relatively tame. Carbonation sensation is fairly low.
O: Not bad by any stretch, but it didn't do much of anything exciting. Not overly sweet, and with a fair amount of roast bitterness. Chocolate and blackberry mix well together, neither being dominant. I wouldn't refuse a pour but wouldn't seek out.

On draft at Mr Brews. Served in a taster glass.
Pours a dark black body, one finger brown head, nice retention, no lacing. Smells of milk chocolate, touch of cocoa, a bit of bitter dark chocolate as well. The blackberry comes out more as it warms. Flavour is a balance of blackberry tartness and the base stout. Fair amount of bitter dark chocolate, some milk chocolate, touch of charred malt, a bit of coffee, cocoa. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, good carbonation, goes down easily. Nice balance of blackberry and the base imperial stout. This was a tasty one.
