Format: a standard brown 330mL bottle with a tylish macro label. Purchased in a mixed case from the brewery at Kunda Park.
Appearance: pours a clear, mid red-brown with sparse fine carbonation. A finger of off-white head pops up and drops to a thin film. Looks fine.
Aroma: oh boy, I remember how much I don't like rauchbiers. Plenty of bonfire smoke, sweet meats and a good blast of umami. Follows the style well.
Taste: again a fair amount of smoke, though less than on the nose. More umami and a definite sweet, triple-smoked ham flavour which is lovely.
Aftertaste: more sweet ham, umami and a sweet wood smoke on the finish. A nicely made beer.
Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate carbonation. Brings the flavours through quite well. Nice and smooth.
Overall: I haven't had too many rauchbiers in my life due to it really, really not being my favoured style of beer. I have tried to be as unbiased as possible however, and will say that this is definitely one of the better rauchbiers I have had, as I can actually tolerate it. not my thing, but well made.
