Format: a standard brown 330mL bottle with a tylish macro label. Purchased in a mixed case from the brewery at Kunda Park.
Appearance: pours out a vibrant amber-orange in colour with minimal visible carbonation. A small lemon-beige head drops from a half-finger to a thin cap.
Aroma: mostly caramel up front with some floral hop aromas behind. Not much bitterness.
Taste: the caramel again with some malts, some bitterness but not as much as expected. A nice and well-rounded beer.
Aftertaste: a lingering bitterness on the finish along with that caramel and malt sweetness.
Mouth feel: quite light in feel with a moderate carbonation. Could possibly use a bit of a fuller body. Still refreshing.
Overall: a good version of the English Bitter - nicely rounded flavours of caramel, malts, floral hops and some bitterness. Very smooth. I can pick up a case from the brewery (and can be bought online for a similar price) for AU$52 a case of 16. Decent for a beer of this quality.

Tried on-tap at Archive in Brisbane.
Pours a pale copper colour, quite clear and bright. Pale off-white head forms a firm ring around the glass. Streaky, British-style lace which suits it. Not much carbonation. It's hitting all the criteria for sure.
Malty and grainy on the nose with a fair bout of sweetness. Slight metal notes along with a medicinal caramel character giving some menthol and frozen vegetables. Slightly herbal tone, but not the earthy English hops I expected.
Light, metallic bitterness on the front before some empty sweetness comes through in the centre. Slight maltiness comes through with a suggestion of dusty grain bag. Diluted caramel on the back, finally with a bit of earthy bitterness.
Feel is light, could certainly be richer, but it's not bad, and it helps with the sessionability.
It has this weird sweetness running through it, and those vegetable characters, the menthol and other things make it seem a but funky. But overall, it's pretty reasonable.

I tasted the beer on tap at Sunshine Coast Brewery, Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia, which is situated in an industrial area at kunda park, near Maroochydore.
This beer is now a new brew known as "best bitter" and it is a classic english pub ale style.
On tap it pours with a thick creamy head-by bottle the head was disappointing-might have been a batch thing.
Light aroma of golding's hops, the beer is deep red brown and has a malty nuttiness about it, very pure drop no preservatives full malt.
Has a complex mix of various malts and hops including some wheat and crystal malts.
Very drinkable-would be great by the session or for a "pint or two by the fire with good company" . 4.6 % alcohol by volume
Greg the brewery owner is a nice bloke and a adventurous brewer-his other beers include a smoked german style, a hefweisen and a rye beer! The hef was nice and the others were very interesting and hve their local following.
This beer deserves support-it is great especially compared with the usual beers on tap in Qld

On tap at the Pig'n'Whistle, Maroochydore.
a) Served traditionally to the lip of the glass, leaving the thinnest slick of tiny, tiny bubbles. Dark amber / copper colours.
s) Honeycomb maltiness. A faint gherkin or dill-like herbal note in there as it warmed.
f) Violet Crumble-like in it's maltiness. Floral hop flavours at the back. Tasty.
m) Medium body, chewy malt, with a medium/firm bitterness. Tingly carbonation, and a touch too cold.
d) A good ale... could have put away more than the two I had time for.
For its apparent "traditional" serving, the carbonation & temperature where certainly not traditional.... due to Queenslander tastes, no doubt. Even still, I would love to try it at cellar temperature, without carbonation, and from a beer engine.

On Tap @ The Royston 8/9/07
A - Pint poured a hazy copper colour with a thin 1/2 cm of head.
S - Caramel at first with some floral presence.
T - The caramel is much more pronounced in the taste. Floral hops come alive as the beer warms a bit.
M - Medium bodied with a fairly low carbonation level.
D - A nice drinkable, well balanced session ale. Can't wait to try some more beers from this revamped brewery.
