Note: picking a style for this beer was difficult. The label says pale ale, the website suggests it is an IPA. Upon tasting, I think this is more like an Australian sparkling ale - a style not yet listed on BeerAdvocate.

Appearance - 3.0
Pours a centimetre of white head which quickly receded to a thin layer over a pale orange body so cloudy one could mistake it for a hefeweizen (if not for the small head).

Smell - 3.0
Yeast driven aroma of red apple, somewhat cidery with a hint of citrusy American hops.

Taste - 3.0
Fairly light malt backbone, grainy with just a little caramel. Firm hop bitterness and big grapefruit flavour, fruity yeast character suggests of underripe plums. Definite sourness suggests the beer may not be as fresh as it could be.

Mouthfeel - 3.5
Light to medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and fine bead.

Overall - 3.0
I feel this beer would be more enjoyable if it were cleaner and less yeasty, perhaps with more malt backbone. If you want to try Brew 42's best offerings, head to Lake Clifton and try the RedTale Irish Red or the Moorhead Stout, both highly enjoyable beers on nitro tap.
