I have always hated hoppy beer...but this is changing my mind toward IPAs. Hop forward, but balanced with the biscuit finish; a clean, delicious finish leaves you wanting one more sip.

Visited the Brewery in Two Harbors and grabbed a growler of Ode.

Not much too look at although the pour is rich amber gold it’s a got nothing but a thin head that dissipated quickly.

Smells citric tangerine and grapefruit peel, peach, pine and a caramel malty presence, a bit grassy.

Taste is dank with citric pithy bitterness, mango, malty caramel presence is background information slightly sweet throughout providing some balance. Finish is very slightly sweet but against pith bitterness. Quite clean and easy to gulp.

Chewy body, pithy. Nice feel.

Overall quite a tasty beer with a dank character which is more balanced than I’ve had recently. The creamy chewy body is quite nice. Glad I got the growler drank it all in one night.

Pours a somewhat hazy, murky golden color. The head is slightly off white, 2 finger, frothy, with great retention. Nice lacing on the glass.
Nice citrus, and pine hops on the nose.
Taste - Citrus seems to be the main flavor profile, with pine coming in on the backside. The citrus seems to be mango and grapefruit.
Feel, quite sticky, and it does cling to my throat for quite a while. Full bodied.
Solid and well built IPA.

Canned 06/04/18.
Slightly hazy golden with 1-finger cap of nearly white head with good retention and lacing.
Aroma is light, lighter than their APA which I had right before this, with some more tropical fruit aromas and a similar herbal, leafy hop note. Malt is not very characterful in the aroma with mostly bland pale malt sweetness and graininess.
Flavor is also a bit of a let down after the strong showing of 17-7. Hop flavor is muted and mostly pine and orange with some floral and lighter herbal, rosy notes with a bit of mango in the finish. Malt component is nondescript pale 2-row malty grain character. Bitterness is light-moderate. No alcohol detected.
Feel is light-medium bodied with low carbonation and medium-dry finish.
Kind of misses the mark with low intensity aroma and flavor with more alcohol.

Pours a slightly hazy orange with a fluffy white head. Smell is mostly floral hops, somewhat one-note but not overbearing. Tastes of floral hops, tangerine, orange, and has a nice malt profile to balance things out. Hints of pine, but not overbearing. Definitely on the sweeter side but bitter in the finish. Medium-full bodied with a decent amount of carbonation and leaves the mouth fairly syrupy. Overall this one is more well-balanced than a lot of IPAs I've had, and decently complex, but it seems like Castle Danger can get a little too syrupy with their beers--17-7 Pale Ale is like that as well. Still worth buying if you're a fan of balance in IPAs rather than the hop bombs.

This beer pours a pale amber with a solid head. The aroma is strongly piney, with notes of mint, orange peel, grapefruit peel, roast mango, and wet wood. The flavor is primarily in the citrus-pine axis, with dried pine needles, grapefruit an orange peel, and a sort of toffee malt and slightly savory quality. The mouthfeel is fairly full with average carbonation. Overall this is a nice, average, well performing iPA. It is nothing special, but there is nothing bad about it either.

a bit more of a red color to this than i am used to in the style, and you do get a slightly richer crystal malt flavor, a little more body, and a different kind of balance, nice touch with the grains here. the hops are what this one is all about though, and like other beers from these guys, its delicious and just interesting enough to stand out. huge hop burst on the nose, fresh and zesty, some of the west coast oily hop character, but also a sharp northwestern bite, piney and strong. the flavor is consistent with the nose, super high alpha and majorly fresh. pine resin, a little guava or something sweet and fruity, and the toasted dry element of the grain as a support structure, really flavorful and sturdy, feels like minnesota ipa, if that is such a thing yet. there is some sweetness mid palate, especially with the only part of the hops in full swing at that juncture, but by the end its back to almost dry, and bitter enough without being overdone, seems almost low bitterness for how hoppy this is in general. castle danger has flown under the radar a bit so far it seems, but if they keep up with beer this good, it wont be that way for long. this is one of the best hop forward beers i had on my recent trip to the state!
