Clear golden colour with a touch of haze. Moderate off-white head. Fair head retention.
Resinous. Orange and clove. Fair whack of alcohol. Touches of dank hop character. No malt character.
Malty sweetness that fades quickly letting a resinous hop character shine. Classic American hop bill with resinous C hop character and good citrus notes. Nice.
Medium body with moderate carbonation. Solid.
A very good effort from Sail and Anchor. Pity about the price point given the style and strength but still a tasty drop.

Bottle: a tall 640mL brown bottle with a decent craft label.
Appearance: pours a clean and clear mid amber with a thin white head. Decent looking, with moderate visible carbonation and plenty of lacing.
Aroma: a pretty decent combination of pine, citrus and funnily enough grass hops, which is nice. Just not the usually massive IPA-style level of hops. Has a lot of promise none the less.
Taste: the hop profile picks up here - a really powerful whack of the hops noted on the nose. Well rounded and refreshing.
Aftertaste: the hop profile drops away a bit and the bitterness is a bit soft. Still decent, thankfully this is an easy-drinking, sessional IPA.
Mouth feel: a medium body with moderate carbonation. A slightly dryness on the finish, but for the most part it could possibly use a teeny bit more carbonation for a bit more power on the finish.
Overall: here is undeniable proof that Australians can indeed produce bloody good IPAs. A good combination of multiple hops coming through strong - a good sessional IPA, perfect for a hot day.

a well done IPA by sail and anchor - my favourite sail and anchor release so far
aroma: honey, grapefruit and malty lemon
taste: grapefruit, pepper, orange peel and pine predominate on the palate with some slight caramel and toffee to balance it out
overall - a solid, well done beer that was better than I expected - hope it becomes more regular and not just a limited release

A - amber gold, one finger frothy head, fades to film and spotty lace. Nice.
S - on the money for APA or AIPA, pine, citrus, grapefruit.... Good so far!
T - entry level as far as flavour blast goes, as it is more than approachable for all palates. Citrus, grapefruit, grassy hop bite, really well balanced for drinkability.
M - nicely carbonated and where is the 6% ? Slides down.
O - a real top drop for crossover entry level beer. Thirst quenching and flavoursome. Can't ask for more than that in an Aussie summer. Well priced, too.

Sail & Anchor are a bit of a miss and miss brewery for me, trying and reviewing four of their new "craft" beers left a sour note in my mouth, but I'm not one to remain bitter and perhaps Devil Dodger is a sweet drop for a salt weathered craft drinker like I... umami.
Poured from a 640ml bottle into a nonic pint.
A: Presents clear golden amber with a little carbonation activity going on and an off-white half centimetre head that sticks around fairly well.
S: Standard American IPA characters in the aroma; big Chinook spicy/pine activity, grapefruit (and interestingly tangerine) citrus hops and the typical caramel malt base give this IPA a satisfying sharp hop American slant that more Aussie brewers are adding to their craft offerings.
T: Quite a bit more balanced between hops and malt in the taste than what was expected from the aroma. The front palate is a fairly sweet caramel malt base followed by slight bitter spicy/pine and grapefruit/tangerine citrus hops. The finish is less bitter than most American IPA's I've tried, but it doesn't serve to lessen it only serves to show that this is a well balanced (and easy drinking!) drop.
M: Mid to light bodied with a touch of hop oiliness and light carbonation.
D: Overall I'm glad that S&A could finally pull a rabbit out of their hat with such a decent IPA that is easily up there with its American counterparts, top marks S&A! Shame it's a limited release though. I will definitely buy a few more of these before they disappear from the store shelves. Drinkability-wise it's the IPA to have before moving on to heavier dry-hopped brews.
Food match: The overall fresh flavour of this IPA would pair well with a Vietnamese beef rice noodle salad or its fried tofu equivalent for vegetarians.

S - Citrus hoppy aromas including, grapefruit, mango, some pineapple and sweet sticky candy
T - Sweet maltiness with the grapefruit, bitter tangy lemon, pineapple, orange peel which is balanced very nicely with a slight bitterness at the finish
M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation
O - Pretty impressed with this one. Love the slight bitterness and tangy finish and highly recommend.
