oh rastaman! when you dislike a beer you really dislike it hey? lol all the other geelong brewery beers are fairly ordinary, but i reckon this is as good a lager as you'll get in australia. maybe thats not saying much an fair enuff. australia does produce some of the worst lagers on the planet. i do like this one however, and when it comes to price, they virtually give it away. considering its made to the german purity laws, that alone means it going to be better than any carlton or tooheys lagers.
its the classic golden lager color. and has a nice foamy head that doesnt dissapate immediately. there are hints of fruit in there, mainly apple and pear, on the nose and in the mouth, and there is a geneorous blast of malt flavors on the palate. as with a regular german lager, the hop bitterness is in exactly the right place. admittedly due to the quality of the water its not as crisp as id like, but all things considered i think theyve done a pretty fair job of working around that. its still fairly clean on the way down your throat and youve gotta pay any beer that can do that. it is the sort of beer you can have a few over a barbie on a hot day and get into.
at least these guys have tried to brew a quality lager in australia, something it takes a lot of guts to do. ok its not as good as its real bavarian counterparts, but for a lager in australia, its hard to find any better. and its cheaper than the crappy lagers everyone tends to drink here, so on that alone its worth a go. schonbrauhaus would be in my 5 best aussie session beers.

Decidedly un-Bavarian. Very crappy Aussie stuff, and even though its in accordance with Reihensgebot, its still manages to taste like they threw a crapload of chemicals and additives into it. Dirty water-esque. Geelong brewing is now probably one of my least favourite brewers. Awful.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
