First! On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, on to the beer:

Pitch black body with a solid retenting head and good formation of lace. The coffee, while mild, is easy to find, but the surprise are the chile notes that I found. A little more is discovered in its taste. Along with the mild chile and good dose of coffee which dominates, there's a backbone of semi-sweet chocolate. Its medium (malty) body helps leaves a little residue around the lips.

One more solid beer to come from the cult favorite Lost Coast. The chile character is a fun aspect which seperates this from the typical coffee stout.

Dark brown, almost black in appearance with a finger of tan head and no retention. There is a mild nose of roasted malt, but it is nothing that really socks your nasal passages. There is a light roasted malt flavor upfront and a but of hoppiness in the finish, but this is awful thin for such a high alcohol beer.

The biggest disappointment is that there were no coffee notes apparent at all. Not much classic stout roasted bitterness either.
