Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance - The brew is served a clear golden color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head fades slowly over time to leave a moderate level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell - The smell begins with a hoppy smell of citrus and pine mixed with some cracker malt and a touch of caramel. Along with these smells comes some light fruit smells of tangerine and peach as well as a touch of a herbal and grassy smell.
Taste - The taste begins with a somewhat crisp malt flavor that has some lighter tangerine flavors. From the start there is a rather decent showing of a grapefruit hop as well as a little bit of pine. As the taste advances the grapefruit fades a little bit all while the pine gets stronger and is joined by some herbal hop flavors. Toward the end a tiny bit of grass join the rest and with a loss of some of the fruit that was upfront, one is left with a more crisp and citrus and pinny hop taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is average in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the mix of hop and crisper malt the feel is rather nice and makes for a easy drinker.
Overall - A rather decently crisp and hopped brew overall. Nothing super exceptional, but nice none the less.

Pours a deep, golden yellow with hints of copper. Decent amount of head and head retention. Carbonation looks average. Mix of pine and citrus on the nose with a malty sweetness in the background. Taste follows the nose pretty well, with the addition of some herbal soapiness and light fruits. Definitely hop-forward, the malts only come through very quickly towards the swallow and give way to pine and grapefruit rind on the finish which lingers. The mouthfeel is smooth and crisp, I feel like the water used is of high quality with perhaps some mineral content. Overall this is a decent AIPA, but not one of my favorites, a bit too soapy for me.

Appearance: Hazy deep golden yellow in color, rather like a classic egg yolk, presents a large, somewhat coarse white head with excellent retention. Thin, patchy lacing adorns the glass walls; clouds of minute bubbles race to the surface.

Aroma: Pine hops dominate the aroma, though grapefruit rind notes are prominent as well. Against this wall of hops, there is a modest undercurrent of cracker and biscuit malt.

Taste: The taste begins with a wave of pine and grapefruit hops, strong, but not overpowering. These flavors carry throughout the taste, A little biscuit malt manages to peek through, but the hops are center stage throughout. The high ABV of 7.5% is artfully concealed, it is neither tasted, nor felt. Hops dominate the finish with a little cracker malt flourish at the close of the taste.

Mouth feel: Smooth and soft, very full, with delicate carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: American IPA is not a favorite style of mine, but Chupahopra is very well done, the brewer's talent is more than evident. This would be pleasing on a cool autumn night.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

An ok beer. Pours a cloudy yellow with a decent head and lacing. The smell is a bit floral but not pronounced. The taste is piney and bitter, a bit soapy. Some citrus as it warms.

Twisted X Brewing Co. "Chupahopra"
on tap at the brewery 6 November 2015

Listed at 6.25 ABV with 50 IBUs. Just slightly hazy amber-copper beneath a good-sized head of frothy white. Better than average head retention and lacing. Mild citrusy, floral and grassy aroma with perhaps a hint of pine. Straightforward biscuity malt. Not a lot of hop flavor... grassy and lightly citrusy. Solidly bitter though... seems more bitter than 50 IBUs. Dry bitter finish.
