Named after Louis Pasteur, the French scientist who is credited as the first person to understand the importance of yeast in the production of beer, this unfiltered lager features barley and hops from the Alsace region of France. It is fantastically drinkable, with classic European lager characteristics of sweet, bready malts and floral Noble hops.

Clear medium gold pour, thin white head. Nose is malt and floral hops.

Taste shows smooth lightly spicy malt, floral notes, brief herbal sweetness. Light mouthfeel. Finish ties it all together with a spicier herbal hoppiness. I really like this beer.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has decent level of retention, fading slowly over time to leave a light sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heavy of a grainy, cereal, and wheat smell mixed with aromas of yeast and caramel. Along with these smells comes notes of some light fruits of apple and pear as well as a moderate amount of herb and hay.
Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat bready but still crisp flavor mixed with some light caramel and pear sweetness. At the same time there is a light herbal and earthy hop that is present, adding a nice hop balance to the bready. As the taste advances a touch of grain joins in, along with some light yeast and a bit of hay. Throughout, the flavor profile, the herbal and the earthy hop increase, and are joined with a bit of floral hop and a touch of must, leaving one with a nice, moderately crisp, and somewhat more dank hopped lager taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness with a carbonation level that is high. For the style and the abv. the I think I would have liked a thinner body, but all said the higher carbonation and the moderate body did make for an easy and flavorful sipper.
Overall – A rather nice lager. Not really sure what makes it a French lager? But overall, it was tasty and easy drinking, so I’ll take it.
