Pours brownish and fairly rich in appearance with a low creamy head.
Not my favorite aroma of bourbon-like whiskey...with some caramel and molasses in there. Just “rough.”
Taste is (and I have to remind myself this is an imperial red) full of caramel notes and underlying hops. An odd combo. Not sure why I picked it up, given IMO bourbon barrel aging and red ales sounds pretty harsh, but I believe it’s because I’m a fan of robust red ales & imperial reds. There is a cocoa-like note in there that’s redeeming to be.
Feels medium and slick, with lower carbonation.
I wouldn’t sample again, but was worth a shot (can).
