A beautiful, dark, rich Rauchbier. Not quite as good as going to Schlenkerla and having a rauchbier straight from the barrel, but certainly a more affordable taste of Bamberg. I would love a little more of the smoked malt character, but understand that would reduce the possible market for it. All in all a great Rauchbier example, that everyone could enjoy.

330ml bottle. Brewed 26/3/2014.
A - burgundy/chestnut in colour. Pours a long lasting creamy offwhite head. A fair bit of suspended sediment - very fine (it took a while to notice it). Appealing.
S - hickory wood chips, smoked malts, suprising to pick up a hint of fruity hops too.
T - smoked malt flavour is present - that distinctive bacon flavour common to smoked rauchbiers. Its not as pronouced as Feral's smoked porter. Fairly noticable hoppy bitterness is present all the way through. While less pronouced, there is a hint of milk chocolate in there.
M - lively carbonation, medium bodied, slightly dry texture.
O - pleasant, i was glad that the bacon and smokiness wasn't as potent as other beers of a similar style. The mid range hoppy bitterness also makes it more sessionable. Im not a huge fan of the style, but in any case this is a decent beer.

Pours dark brown with a large mousse-like head.
Nose shows beechwood smoke, campfire, nutty malt, bready hints, chocolate. Pretty good stuff.
Flavours focus on the smoke, chocolate and sweet bready melanoidin-like notes.
Carbonation is a little over the top.

Clear dark mahogany colour with a foamy, tan head. Good head retention. Good.
Sharp, smoky aroma. Lots of ham. What it says on the label.
Moderately malt with a big dose of melanoiding and then sweet smoke. Well balanced. I prefer a touch more smoke but this works.
Medium-full body with moderate carbonation. Quite smooth.
A delicious beer. Smooth, sweet, tasty and smoky.

Pours a murky brown hue with a two finger head and some nice lacing, the smell is smoked malts with smoked wood and a slight touch of bacon, the feel is medium bodied with above moderate carbonation and the tastes are smoked malts, beechwood,a light touch of milky chocolate and finished with fruity hoppiness and overall yeah I like it and very true to style but extra marks to Nail for not being a one trick pony cheers.
