been sitting on this bottle for some time in the cellar, i believe its a 2018 vintage, or thereabouts, been kind of saving it. i know these guys closed some years ago and i havent heard anything about a reopening. i hold this place in high regard, have since my very first taste of their beer way back when, and fear this being my last ever from them, not wanting that moment to come, i just sat on this, but the time finally felt right, so we busted it out and it was every bit as good as hoped for, if this ends up being my last ever logsdon, the memory will be a good one, a proper sendoff for me to one of the greats that helped establish my love for beer like this, fitting its my favorite style right now, wild beer with grapes, this one done in cabernet barrels with syrah and grenache grapes, i think perhaps made for tin bucket, who is also now defunct, times have changed! gorgeous pour on this, lighter red wine colored, pinkish, nice stained glass jewel tone and pretty high color saturation, light haze, lots of tiny bottle conditioned bubbles collecting in a short white head, pretty brew, lots of sparkle and the fruit is obvious, a bit more color density and also sediment towards the very bottom, somewhat increasing grape intensity too as i drink down through this. aroma is epic, maybe even the best part of it, all the spontaneous mature bretty funk anyone could ask for, enticing grape tannins and tartness without being outwardly sour beer to me, just tangy is all, notes of cranberry and pie cherry fruitiness from the grapes, but also decidedly vinous, woody, and wild, amazing, mouthwatering, and addicting, i cant get enough, really unique minerality too, light sulfur, wet stone, farmy. the flavor is wonderful, led by the fruit and the ferment together, nuances of raspberry, red rose, sharp red wine, both grape varietals coming in equal proportion to me, bretty funk to the max, lambic level maturity and weirdness, a huge compliment, and somehow about as complex as any ive ever had from these guys, which feels surreal, but its truly wild, and time in the cellar has obviously been awesome for this. blackberry, cedar wood, slate, white pepper spiciness, heavy wine tannins and skin character, juicy still too, but bone dry, champagne level excitement in terms of carbonation, no sign of having its age be an issue at all, this might cellar forever in true lambic fashion. masterful liquid, drinking at peak right now, amazing integration of the grapes, the wine barrel character is robust as well, and the mouthfeel is brilliant. i hope this isnt it, but if it is, thanks logsdon, you meant a lot to me...
