On tap at Bug Mike's Brew N Que in Cary. More traditional IPA: pale, bitter and with not so much florals.

L - pours a rather disappointing crystal clear golden straw. Was hoping for some character given the brewery name! Fluffy head, looks to be rather carbonated...
S - from the moment I opened the bottle, deeply spicy boozy oaky wood galore. Don't know what was in these barrels aside from le france, but I'd guess a bourbon or a rum. Sticky piney hops follow and leaves a cinnamon Christmas tree essence in the air.
T - wow, holy cow is the oak overwhelming! I thought the aroma was strong, but this is something else! Looks to be rum. Has a tight bitterness that pulls the cheeks in. Strong spice flavor. Allspice, ginger, some nutmeg. I keep forgetting this is supposed to be an IPA! Getting some mild hop twang, but I'm really stretching here...
F - not as carbonated as the initial pour suggested. Full-bodied and smooth, but still has a bit of a foamy feel. Not as much fun to swish in the mouth.
O - first Ass Clown beer and I'm a fan! I think. They went for a flavor and they certainly delivered, even if it is a bit rough around the edges. The bottle says oak and there sure as hell is oak. A unique and interesting beer for sure, but I'm not sure I will want this again!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
