a cool brew, but i didnt like it anywhere near as much as the solera cuvee rouge, which blew my mind. this one is sort of quad-esque, lots of dark malts and dark candy sugar i would think, heavy molasses and dried date character to it, chestnut and maple, its very sweet, not very carbonated, and without as much of a dramatic belgian yeast profile as i was anticipating, is pretty subtle, covered up by the intensity of the grain. cocoa, molasses, burnt sugar, prune juice, and even soy when i start drinking it and letting it warm up. its also really boozy, the alcohol fills the head space of the glass and sticks around, intense to me each time i sip on it. on top of that, the sweetness is enormous, it coats the teeth and tongue and feels really dense and heavy. a slight astringency too, i think from all the alcohol, slightly chemical in that way, a little sloppy to me, especially without hardly any carbonation, which makes it feel denser still. a lot to drink the bottle by myself. i find this more interesting than i do enjoyable though. it makes me want to score some more from these guys. this is wintery for sure, nice on a freezing windy fall night as the snow moves in...
