Our 300th batch here at the pub since opening our doors on Father’s Day 2011! This beer was brewed to be a celebration of all the big flavors we enjoy in a breakfast stout. Flavors of bittersweet dark chocolate, mocha, dark fruits, and smoothness from oats all come to play in this decadent strong ale. Sumatran coffee beans and dark Mexican chocolate were used in our hopback to take this beer to the next level. As if that weren't enough, we finished this unique brew with our signature Guatemalan Antigua cold-press coffee recipe, generally reserved for the Jemmy Dean, and infused the beer with a half-gallon per barrel. Just wait ‘til we empty the whisky barrel housing this beer in our cellar…

From a cask at the 2018 Atlanta Cask Ale Festival (ACAF).

Essentially black body with a decent tan head.
Strong flavor with more moderate and appealing aroma. Lightly bitter with some coffee and dark chocolate lingering in the aftertaste.

Appearance: Served up a standard-issue black body with a long-lasting, light brown head.

Smell: A vibrantly fragrant, sweet-smelling chiefly scented with three items: roasted maltiness, robust coffee beans and dark chocolate.

Taste: An opening of well-roasted darkened malts swirled with chilled rich, smooth coffee and melty chocolate for an overall medium-light sweetness. Subdued dark fruitiness. Any bitterness seems gleaned more from the roasted malts and additives than any hops. Drying finish with a lingering coffee quality.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus. Medium-low carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.

Overall: Why, it’s straight-up good!

I am not a big fan of chocolate-coffee stouts, but this one is different. This is probably the best chocolate-coffee stout I've had, and thus prompted my first review of any stout (note: Not even the BCBS impressed me, but this one did.). The taste is complex but still well-balanced, nothing overpowering, but a pleasant blending of dark chocolate, mocha, dark fruits, and oats. They also did a good job hiding the alcohol taste. Mouthfeel is also smooth and thick, and not carbonated. I drank this while eating Wrecking Bar Brewpub's pastrami sandwich and burger and I think the saltiness of these entrees slightly diminished this beer's flavor so try to enjoy it as much before eating anything. Also, if you plan to drink their Siberian Mexicanus on the same night, you might want to drink that first before the breakfast stout as the Siberian Mexicanus tasted too syrupy sweet after drinking the more bitter Choco Mountain Imperial Breakfast Stout.

This is the best chocolate stout I've ever had, and I've tried quite a few. The chocolate flavor is actually very strong but it's the really good, bittersweet kind. Some roasty malts compliment it really well. Definitely not too sweet. Despite the strong flavors, it manages to be extremely well balanced. Mouth feel is super smooth and thick, not very carbonated at all. Compared to their Siberius Maximus, no presence of alcohol at all, and this is a 9.0%. Also, I respect the Mario Kart reference.
