On tap at the brewpub
A: Pours pitch black into a small goblet glass. A finger of light tan head forms on top of the beer. The head retention is above average.
S: Strong dark cherry and dark chocolate aroma. Balanced bitterness with sweetness.
T: Sweet cherry along with a lot of dark chocolate flavor. Some roasted malts are also there, but they are not nearly as strong as the cherry and chocolate. Moderate hoppy bitterness is also present. I find the cherries a bit distracting.
M: Mouthfeel is quite thick with moderate carbonation.
O: I'm honestly not a fan of maraschino cherries and that did not help this beer. The chocolate and cherries also distracted from a lot of other flavors. I'm interested to try the base beer, though.
Edit: After trying the base beer, I see how some sweetness can help it, even if it's a type of sweetness I generally dislike.
