Wrecking Bar Brewpub "Wreckinator Dopplebock"
16 fl. oz. can, "Canned: 2/20". Sampled on 02.28.2026
Notes via stream of consciousness: Its clear, light brown body appears to have a ruby sheen in the full glass. The head is a short cap of light tan foam. There's a bit of spiciness in the nose that might be hops, or might be alcohol but I can't tell. My guess is that it's hops. Of course there's malt there as well, with caramel and toasty bread dominating. On to the taste - as usual the flavor follows the aroma. It's sweetish but not too sweet, again spicy and subtly herbal, and balanced by a bitterness of around 20 IBUs. It finishes with some malt lingering but also some earthiness and herbs. The alcohol might be helping to dry it but it doesn't stand out. Additional notes in the taste include dark brown sugar, some raisin, and a dollop of honey. The mouthfeel could possibly be fuller but it's still medium-full, and the carbonation is limited, leaving it smooth and creamy but also cutting down on head retention at the same time. All in all it's a very solid example of the style but it somehow misses the target of becoming a classic.
