I have had this a couple times now -once on draft and once in the bottle, loved the draft this is from the bottle in a pint.
The color is black opaque with khaki head frothy looking with fine bead and lace that sticks well with good retention. The smell is very pine-like with a hint of burnt malt aroma and slight yeast fruitiness which is prune-like. The feel is bitter with mild bitterness from roasted grain with a long lingering hop bitterness with moderate carbonation and dry finish with low alcohol influence.
The flavor is very hop forward with dark malt second and an almost ruby-red like grapefruit taste in the hops with slight bitter extremely dark roasted coffee in the malt with light yeast sort of simple but nice flavor of hops with resinous and semi-sweet element but it recedes leaving the mouth dry with slight lingering hop spiciness. Overall this is pretty intensely hopped with a tropical citrus and black malt juxtaposition I consider it a pretty decent if not very good black IPA.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of hops, citrus, roasted malts. Taste is the same, citrus hops, some roasted malts, alcohol is well hidden. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall a good beer, but drinks much more like a black ale than a DIPA.

Undated bottle into pint glass. Pours black, like the label says, with a thick tan/chocolate milkshake head. Moderate carbonation. Initial impression is roasted malt, quickly followed by resinous, piney hops bitterness which lingers. Mouthfeel is quite thick for the style. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall impression: this is a fairly well-balanced IPA, but it's a little rough around the edges.
