Dark, mysterious and rich. This robust porter is brewed with chocolate and oats for a smoother texture and deep cacao roast character.

On draught at the brewery.
A dark pour with a decent head, little lacing.
Sweet, lactose, chocolate, molasses notes.
A little tangy, borderline cloying on the finish.

black in color, cream colored head. good head retention. Fudgey chocolate flavor, on the sweeter side. Could have used a bit more roast to balance the sweetness. smooth feel

Pours an opaque, almost-black brown, with only a sliver of hazelnut brown around the edge of the glass as you tip it to drink. Foam is modest, ivory colored, largely dissipates in a few minutes, but lacing persists. Smell is rich in milk chocolate and malt. Taste begins like the smell with the addition of a creamy richness from the oats that persists until the next sip. While the very dark color might suggest a heavier beer, the body is definitely that of a porter, medium heavy with low carbonation and a smooth feel all the way through. A lot of beers today add dark chocolate accents to their stout base, but between the chocolate flavor, porter weight and the oat smoothness , there are moments where the smell and the taste of this beer, especially toward the middle, could be legitimately mistaken for hot chocolate. Even if that isn't a flavor profile you usually seek, it is worth experiencing the obvious craftsmanship that goes into this beer.

Pours dark brown with an abundant head. Strong front notes of roasted chocolate that lead smoothly into a rich malty finish. Overall a tremendously well balanced porter with a wonderfully designed and executed flavor palette.

A - Dark brown pour with creamy caramel colored frothy foam resting on top.

S - Roasted cocoa and chocolate malt dominate the nose, starts strong after the pour but dissipates quickly.

T - Follows the nose to a "T". Roasted chocolate and cocoa that starts sweet and ends with a mild chocolate bitterness that lingers on the palate

M - Medium body with a small bit of thinness around the edge.

O - All chocolate from start to finish and held up incredibly well for being one month after the Best By Date.

Poured from the can. This is a solid chocolate porter. Not too sweet or boozy, just the right amount of chocolate flavor. Dark roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, earthy hops. Moderate bitterness. Solid.

Poured into a narrow imperial pint glass: color is very dark brown, head is tan with frothy mixed bubbles presents one finger thick, head lingers well and laces the glass sides.

Smell is strong chocolate, cacao, roasted malt, lighter caramel and chocolate chip cookie like notes, light grassy hops.

Taste is similar with a strong chocolate flavor, lighter roasted malt, hint of caramel and bready/biscuit maltiness, grassy hops.

Mouthfeel is lower carbonation, moderate sweetness, lower bitterness with a lingering sweeter feel.

Overall sweeter chocolate porter but presented well with some subtle bitter counter notes.

It looked so good, and smelled so good (dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark malt) I had to take an undisciplined gulp for my first taste. So subtle - every one of the three flavors mentioned, but none are overwhelming. This stout is Just Right!

At long last, the CANportunity has finally arisen for me to do a brewery horizontal with South County B.C. & potentially close the book on them. I am sure that they mean well, but I have had far and away too many of their CANs that have either pooched out or exploded altogether. The CANQuest (tm) is not interested in babysitting a beer in the hopes of keeping it together. Once I run through this lot, I will disCANtinue buying their beers.

From the CAN: "Dark Thread Chocolate Oat Porter"; "O. G. 16.5 P"; "SRM 32"; "IBU 23"; "Pour Into a Glass for Best Drinking Experience."

The Crack!ing open of the vent beCAN with a little bit of foaming due to its being a brimful craft CAN. I followed this with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass as directed. It took me by surprise with a pseudo-cascade that turned into two-plus fingers of rolling, fizzy, rocky, deep-brown head with low retention, quickly falling to wisps. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with garnet highlights, especially at the edges. Nose was chocolaty, but it was the bittersweet chocolatiness of Baker's chocolate, with a slightly sour edge. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but definitely slick in the mouth & on the tongue. The taste was imprecisely bittersweet chocolate. Instead, it was more akin to drinking a Dr. Pepper! 8=O It was flavorful without being overly sweet, but it was unlike any Porter that I CAN remember.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours pitch black with a nice light brown head. Smells of chocolate with sweet grain notes. Tastes of creamy chocolate with a hint of coffee, and nice grain notes. Beer is medium bodied yet easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Rich dark brown, effervescent, with two fingers of dense mocha head. Solid retention leads to rings of lacing.

Sweet chocolate and cream aroma.

Sweet chocolate dominates the taste. A little mascarpone, almond biscotti and cherry shows beneath. There’s a touch of roasted malt way down below, but it’s pretty stepped on.

Thick, overly creamy feel for a porter — even an oatmeal one. It’s nice, but more like an American Imperial Stout than to style.

Aside from the “porter” branding, this delivers as advertised. It’s sweet, creamy and very chocolatey. Like making chocolate milk with Hershey’s syrup and pouring way too much in.

The label on this beer is subtle yet has a striking appearance. The beer emitted an intense chocolate and coffee aroma when I opened it up. The beer is 45 degrees and served in a tulip glass. The beer produced a one-finger light tan head. The head the beer dissipated rather quickly leaving only a ring around the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 32, a dark brown nearly black beer. The beer is opaque.

The aromas in the beer are dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, toffee, oatmeal/cereal, caramel, dark roasted malts, molasses-like sweetness, bready, toasty, and a subtle smoky fire.

The flavors in the beer are dark dry roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, caramel, a hint of malty sweetness, smoky fire, bready, and cereal.

The mouthfeel of the beer is dry yet creamy.

The body of the beer is medium, medium-low carbonation, and fuller finish.

That is unusual the flavor does not transpose exactly as the aromas. I got heavier sweet notes in the aromas than in the taste. This porter is well made. I am enjoying sipping on this as the night goes by. I would not mind drinking a few more. Thank you.
