The Intervals series is a platform that allows our brewers to experience and study the ingredients that we use in brewing. As we develop new flavors and experience those nuances we can share that with others. From single hop varieties to alternate grains we want you to learn with us! Experiment, learn, repeat!

I had some problems with South County BC CANs pooching outward in the face of the recent heat wave. I then set up a triage to get as many suspects into the reefer as possible so as to prevent actual explosions, which have happened in the past. The CANQuest (tm) has a CANlection of failed CANtainers & will display them on request. Curious? Just ask!
From the CAN: "Experiment*Learn*Repeat"; "Brewing Research Series"; "Best Kept Cold"; "Drink Fresh Do Not Age"; "Exploring the Possibilities"; "Learn With Us".
No pooching, but I was CANcerned all the same. Once more, the Crack! unleashed some foaming through the vent, so it was on to a slow, gentle Glug. It CANtinued to want to foam, so I CANtinued to pour, finally getting the CANtents deCANted as it formed just under three fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with excellent retention. The head really hung in, especially in the heat & humidity of the day, slowly falling & leaving great lacing behind in its wake. Color was a cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose was both grapefruit citrus and tropical guava plus a spiciness that I could not quite identify. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. Whoa, was this bitter! Man, grapefruit definitely led the way, trailed by the tropical fruitiness & then heated by the spiciness. Anise, perhaps? Ah, a check of the Web says that Star Anise flavor is a characteristic of this hop. Finish was spicy, bitter and very dry. It might be on the upper end of IBUs for an APA, but I am not CANplaining. This was really an interesting S.M.A.S.H. beer & a great entry in the series.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
