Black IPA with caramel, toast, and roasted malt aromas, complimented by sweet background notes but crisp on the palate finishing with a resinous, citrusy and floral hop character

Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of roasted malts. Taste is roasted malts up front, mild hops in the background. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

On draught, the pour is very dark with a decent tan head. Retention is weak, but it does leave some random lacing.
Fragrance is malty, not as floral as expected.
The flavor is of dark roasted barley malt, cocoa, a bit of chicory. The dark malt seems to be masking the hops somewhat. The bitterness is there, conifer flavors and tropicals are lower than anticipated. The finish
A good beer that has a loose hold on the IPA moniker.
This recipe would benefit from adding about half again as much hops, as well as some dry hopping later in the process.
