According to the brewer, Cotta 74 is an artisanal double-malt dark ale refermented in the bottle. Pours mid sized beige head with good retention that slowly sets to a firm cloth atop of slightly hazed dark amber to coppery body with deep reddish hue. The beer is said to contain 15 % of lentil and indeed the distinct legume scent is easily perceptible and at least initially dominates over the caramel-like malty sweetness and esters of raisins. The aroma profile gets rounded by mild spiciness in the background and a whiff of alcohol. The legume flavor is not distinguishable as the scent is; the beer is slightly tart on ther palate, with raisiny fruitiness over the toasted malt foundations with a hint of dark chocolate and mild hoppy bitterness toward the relatively dry finish. There's a faint spicy touch to the flavor. Medium to full bodied with moderate but soft carbonation. (750 ml, best before 16. March 2013, into tulip.)

Overall, an easy-drinking Italian interpretation of Dubbel brewed with lentil.

Interesting bottle and ingredient-lentil! Big plus for that.

A - Coffee,caramel color,lots of bubbles,white one finger foam,lasting minute.

S - Mostly caramel malt, decent aroma in the nose.

T/M - Creamy, good balanced, earthy aroma from lentils with some caramel and coffee. Medium carbonation. Maybe a bit unpleasant bitter finish, but just maybe..

O - They invest lots of work in this beer, real microbrewery product.

Interesting and pretty italian dubbel of light and pleasurous feel, smell and taste are less yeasty than the belgian ones but the sweet notes are present without strong dark chocolare, coffe or bitter notes.

pour is a dark copper, active bubbles, tight fluffy light tab head. Nose is on malt side, biscuit, toasted caramel popcorn (thanks kayleigh), a touch nutty, faint herbal hop, a touch flat and choppy in the nose. Taste is toasted caramel popcorn, a bit sweeter on the caramel and smoother in the malt body, still a hint nutty, faint herbal and oily hop in the finish. Body is medium and a touch slick with an assertive carbonation. Hops linger for a moment.

750ml bottle poured in a mug.

A: Pours a dark amber to brown clear color. Small beige head with small retention and no lacings

S: Very biscuity. Ashes. Annoying

T: Malty, biscuity and ashy

M: Light body and low carbonation. Mild bitterness

O: Disgusting for a beer that comes in a quite nice bottle. In the end, I've started to have the impression that it was rotten or something due to its bad quality. To be avoided

With lentil.
Brown reddish color, a lot of foam, beige, quite beautiful.
In the smell malt and caramel, red fruit, quite ripe. Not bad.
At the taste agian malt and caramel, light chocolate.
The lentil are perceptible (maybe. A strange earthy taste. What is the taste of lentil in beer?).
Anyway, not bad.
Quite interesting beer, a bit sweet, but after all, ok.
