An okay offering for a brown ale from Bear Brewing Company in Kamloops (now under the ownership of Big Rock as far as I understand). Poured from a 341 ml brown bottle, it's a clear amber/light hazelnut tone, a decent head that recedes to a very thin cap, more impressive ring, and a small amount of lacing. Smell is of intense caramel malt, close to that of canned extract (although I happen to like that smell), with a bit of a bitter hop presence. Flavour is a rich caramel/nut, but that extract presence lingers as well, which is more of a turn-off when it comes to actual taste, and there's a mild hop finish. Creamy mouthfeel, it's quite drinkable, far more body than a Newcastle, and more flavour as well. This does okay as a mild brown if you can get past the canned extract presence.

A good offering from this Kamloops brewery that sits nicely
between their Black and Polar Bear offerings in both style
and flavour. I liked the malty taste that combined with a
bitter finish. The hops could have been pumped up a bit but
the drinkability was fine and even when at room temp. the
beer stayed balanced. I would like to find this on tap as
it would make a decent rainy evening beer with friends.
