Wow, an excellent smooth ale. A touch sweet but very drinkable IMO.

Brought to me by Sergio is another pants wetter; Double Perigosa aged in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels. The second of the Wood Aged Series, also limited to just over 3000 bottles produced (and hopefully more in the future). From a 300 ml bottle, on to the beer:
The beer is very dark amber red, topped with an inch of head which shows very good sturdiness. As a beer based off an Imperial IPA, then presumably doubled (Quadruple IPA?) for Double Perigosa, it does seem strange to smell a beer that's sweeter than hoppier. But it's done well. Cabernet notes hit, grass, lemon, big carmelized sugar, earthiness.
Double Perigosa went from very good to great with a mouthful of itself in my mouth. This is where the wood really starts to do its work. If you were expecting a big wallop of hops, forget it! This is a very sweet beer, yet carefully put in check. This is an explosion of carmelized sugar, toasted malt, oak, vanilla, joined with a zip of cabernet sauvignon. It's a big mouth of malt, so it doesn't come as a surprise that this bee ris full bodied, however the alcohol content of 15.1% is hidden devilishly. Having a smooth liquid of this strength is just icing to the cake.
With one drinking session, I think I have a new Brazilian favorite, knocking off Tcheca from its 6 year stand on the podium. Double Perigosa is worth the talk, an amazing beer that is full of flavor. Given the raves Bodebrown has received, I wouldn't be surprised if they're aging the 2015 release in barrels right this moment.
