Already a big fan of the standard Bodebrown Wee Heavy, Samuel and Paulo raised the stakes by adding cocoa from the state of Bahia to their beer. Having seen their Cacau IPA be a smash hit, I hoped the Cacau Wee would do the same. A colorful 300 ml stubby bottles comes from Ciro, to which I reply "muito obrigado pela breja!" On to the beer:
An inch of creamy head rests above this dark leather brown colored ale. Retention is not only good, but the head leaves some creamy lacing. With a name like Cacau Wee, I was expecting a big hit of cocoa into my nose. Howveer, I was hit with soft Scottish yeast which gave me fruity and earthy aromas. There is a kiss of cocoa as well. Hard water minerals and prunes make a mark too.
Similar with the aroma, the soft yeast hits the palate and makes a very good impression. Soft and fruity indeed. Here comes a shot of cocoa, then esters. There is a gentle spiciness and warmth from the alcohol. Malty for sure, however retaining its sweet balance. It's a very smooth beer, riding a medium-full body with soft carbonation.
Cacau Wee takes another spot in Bodebrown's laboratory of fame. A slightly sweeter alternative to the standard Bodebrown Wee Heavy.
