On tap at Bitter Phew, very difficult pour. Took about ten minutes to get a glass full.
Standard gold colour, a bit still. White head is tightly packed, but not sticking around. Looks very dark and a bit bland.
Smells hugely funky and phenolic. Almost a petroleum potency, but more pleasant earthy characters. Definitely nitro rich soil, horse and turmeric on there. Quite Belgian really and lacking the crisp bite of a typical Berlin sour.
Taste is more milky and light as the first real berliner weiss character. Lactic notes upfront descend into mild cleansing sour bite midway, that has a Fuji apple kind of flavour to it. Finishes a little sweet and not quite sharp enough, has a funny kind of residual sweetness that shouldn't be there. Bit fruity and not hugely impressive.
Decent body but no texture at all. From the right amount of wildness this should be puckering. It's got no presence really.
I get it's a tough style but I just feel like this is a flop. Disappointing lack of character, or edge.
