A nice dark black beer with a good-size foam. The foam did not last long, but it also did not get in the way of the beer. A nice chocolate smell with hints of sweetness. The taste did not match the smell as there was a bit of bitterness that I was not expecting and did not really go with the rest of the beer. It had a good finish as was a good stout. I did not finish it quickly which is a sign of a decent but not great beer.

341ml bottle, day 6 of the 2013 Craft Beer Advent Calendar. Awesome name and PG cartoon label.
This beer pours a solid black, with subtle basal cola highlights, and one fat finger of foamy, frothy, and somewhat creamy beige head, which leaves some splashing, falling water lace around the glass as things duly recede.
It smells of dry cocoa powder, bready and biscuity caramel malt, a touch of black licorice, mild day-old coffee notes, and earthy, leafy hops. The taste is almost crisp, crackery caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, a soft drupe fruitiness, acrid espresso, overripe pear, a hint of cream, and earthy, weedy hops.
The carbonation is present, and generally agreeable in its otherwise wan frothiness, the body a sturdy medium weight, and smooth like well sugared and creamed coffee. It finishes off-dry, the grainy malt holding on for dear life, in the face of the lingering coffee and burgeoning metallic booze character.
An easy to drink, coffee-spiked oatmeal stout, with a weirdly plain, if still approachable mouthfeel. I can't exactly say now that I've been punched by a moose knuckle, as the booze generally keeps things on the down low, so I suppose that I've just had a good taste of it, then.

Appearance- Pours a dark black brown with a finger of frothy mocha head.
Smell- Roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee bean, nutty aromas.
Taste- Plays to the bitter side on these flavours, similar as detected in the smell. Good roasted flavour that lingers throughout.
Mouthfeel- Medium to full bodied with light carbonation.
Overall- A well done winter stout with lots of warm roasted flavours. Glad to have seen this in 6 packs at the brewery while it lasts.

this year's winter stout was a coffee stout. Not sure if it's the same as last year's stout or a different recipe.
It's an opaque black with a light tan head. Decent head retention, but not remarkeable.
Smells of piney hops and chocolate type malts.
Taste was initially of cold coffee. Not to my liking, but not really a fault, either. It initially reminded me of drinking cold, stale coffee; though as it finishes, you start to notice the clean, slightly piney hops and chocolate type malts. I didn't detect any roast barley character, though there was a faint acrid black malt flavour.
Mouthfeel was middle of the road; not heavy, but not light either. Had a nice silkiness to it.
Still, the strong coffee flavour did stick around some; which did not enhance the overall drinkeability of the brew (for me).
